Description

DD-KBDi-Awards-Finalist-logo--300x169A bold architecturally designed family home on the canals of Port Macquarie has maximised the spectacular water views with an integrated indoor/outdoor designed kitchen, bbq and dining area. Elegant and functional stylish design combines with innovative appliances and the bold selection of finishes and materials to create a breathtaking simplicity which seamlessly blends with the beautiful location of this residence. The resulting space is a cook’s delight and an entertainer’s dream.

The kitchen area was to include the design of a main kitchen, indoor BBQ kitchen and dining area. Intending to stay in this home for many years the products and finishes to be of quality and the space planning to allow for the changing needs of the family.

Open plan by design making full use of the great water views and the inclusion of low-maintenance materials. The Interior design and feel: Uncluttered, family friendly, spacious, relaxed and functional.

The original kitchen layout was redesigned to be more in keeping with the bold architectural style. The kitchen island was angled to provide the best water views and visual interest. Integrated fridges create a seamless built-in furniture look. To reduce glare off of the water, the selected splashback material is a slab sized porcelain tile (3000 x 1000 x 3mm) in a matt metallic finish. It is an impressive look and very easy to clean.

Continuing the furniture look, a sliding bi-bold door appliance cupboard was designed to extend the overall bench surface and double as a drinks area and secondary pantry. It was designed to look stylish whether the doors are open or closed. The combined leather and timber grain laminate door finishes are tactile and organic, low maintenance and family friendly.

The BBQ kitchen is an extension of the main kitchen. Highlighting the elongated elegance is the bench / shelf which cantilevers across the full height window. The custom dining table is the finishing touch that visually connects this integrated space. Feature lighting defines and highlights the subtle detailing adding another spatial dimension.

Innovations:

  • white glass induction cooktop from SMEG (the first installed in Australia)
  • hidden SMEG stainless steel sink
  • bespoke stone dining table (at bench height) to connect the kitchen, BBQ and dining space
  • first application of the specified commercial timber flooring in a residential home
  • slab size tile splashback
